Be Still
Psalm 46
As you journey with God through the day to day there are so many times that we can get caught up with the here and now. I know that in my case I try to constantly figure out what is going on and what the next step could possibly be. I think " well, if this is happening then maybe I can plan on this as the next step…" Each time I put this thought into action I am disappointed and frustrated finding myself almost feeling Bi polar in my thoughts. One minute I would be excited to see what God had next and then within about an hour I was wondering if God truly existed. I know that I am not alone in this thought pattern, the writer of Psalm 46 must have gone through something similar due to the end result of the psalm. We need to come to grips with the fact that our control is only a myth. We don't have control… of anything, pretty comforting huh!? We can not hold time or life in our hands and believe that we have the final say in what is to happen with us. So this needs to bring us to a point of frustration where we need to see clearly the character of God. He has a heart that is good to us, He is our strength, He is a comfort as things become more and more unclear. He will protect us and has a plan for us that is far greater than we could think or imagine – He has come to give us life ( John 10:10). Our job is simply to trust – the hard part is that our job is simply to trust. That all starts by realizing we need to let go of what we truly don't have a hold of and just trust God – to be still and just know that He is God. Take some time this week to focus on the character of God in the scriptures. Find places where You see Gods character – start by looking up the word "Love" in a concordance or on line in the bible and see what you come up with then go from there. You will be amazed at what you find out about our loving gracious, all powerful Father. Love Me Matthew 5:13-16 As I walk through this life and see what is left of a society that has lost all hope in self and humanity I can tend to get discouraged. Why have we let things get this bad? why are some people so angry? why do we blame everyone else for what is happening to us personally? Then I go to church and try and insulate myself from society, I begin to feel better about where I am and can have a tendency to forget about those around me. Well, I also believe that the dream that God has given us is not for our benefit at all, it is for those around us. God has shown us how amazing he is through our trials and our joys. He has revealed to us the fact that, as a believer in Jesus, we could never taste hell. He has given us a relationship that includes a pile or dirt (us) and the creator of everything we have ever seen or touched. God had to humble himself to come into our universe and even more so humble Himself to be a part of our lives. How amazing is that – take some time to think about how he loves you and then pass that along to those around you. Jesus himself said he came to heal the sick, those sick here on the earth need to see and experience that healing by you showing them that Love. So see how you can affect the lives around you, those you may look at and hate, or those you despise, or those living with you. Show you care about them by giving them more than a verse or a kind word. Act on Gods love, Feed the hungry, clothe the naked and listen to people, show them they are valuable, as valuable as you are to God. Realize that people need Jesus and you may be the only Jesus they ever see or experience, they are screaming out to you, even if they don't know it. Become the light and salt that God has called us to be. Love them as Christ loves them, and see that the desire he put on your heart is to show them Him in a mighty way. Matthew 25:35-40 Beautiful Ephesians 2:10 Isaiah 1:18 Isaiah 61:10 I know that in my life I have a tendency to believe that I am not valuable to God even after receiving the truth about who we are in Him from His word. There is still the constant battle that has me thinking that all I am is a mess, but as I search the scriptures I see that God has a different point of view of us. God does not see us for what we see, in fact he really doesn't see us at all. If you can picture your self physically in front of God ( bear with me) what would be there between the Holiness of God the father and creator would be Jesus. He is our interceder between God the father and us. He acts on our behalf to basically speak to the father and say that we are in the family. That was the part of the crucifixion where Jesus took our sins upon himself. So where does that leave us? In a GREAT place! God now sees us as pure and holy and righteous – Beautiful. He does not see a half finished product but a completed end result of who we are to become. He does not look at us and think "If I could only fix or change this then they would be amazing". NO, He sees a masterpiece! Begin to take some time and thank God for his view of us – take that in and respond to that with nothing but humility realizing that we didn't earn or deserve that but it was given to us. Then see that we are valuable and worth the life we have been given
